If your weekends have turned into hours and hours of cleaning, you're probably thinking: there has to be a better way. Well, there is: Get a maid! OK, we're kidding about the maid (kinda). If live-in staff is out of the budget and out of the question, make cleaning your home more manageable by following the habits of people who always have clean homes. Since no one has time for deep cleaning every day, here's 8 simple habits you can adopt into your daily schedule.

  1. Unload the dishwasher before bed. Rather than waking up to a sink full of dirty dishes or a dishwasher full of clean dishes, take just a few minutes before bed to make sure the dishwasher is empty. This way, everything from breakfast can be quickly loaded and your kitchen is left looking great.
  2. Make your bed. Even if you've hit that snooze button a dozen times, make your bed before you leave the bedroom. Having an organized sleeping space and starting your day with this habit really helps to set the tone for the rest of your day.
  3. Wipe down surfaces every day. Take just a few minutes after you brush your teeth to wipe out the sink. After each meal, wipe off the counters, stovetop, and table. This takes just a few minutes, but will have a huge effect on the cleanliness of your home.
  4. Be in a constant state of laundry. Rather than let your laundry pile up and become overwhelming, do a little laundry every day. This doesn't mean you need to have a load washed, dried, and put away, but if you toss a load into the washer in the morning and put away the load of laundry from yesterday at night, your laundry won't be overwhelming and your laundry room will be more organized.
  5. Adopt the "5-minute straightening up" habit. Before you head to bed at night, give yourself 5 minutes to pick up around the house. This isn't major cleaning, but in just a few minutes you're able to get your house looking and feeling clean.
  6. Vacuum every few days. Put that vacuum and all its accessories to work every few days. You'll be able to cover almost every surface in your home with the vacuum and can dust other surfaces with the soft bristle brush accessory.
  7. Keep cleaning supplies everywhere. Take larger bottles of cleaning supplies and put them into small bottles and leave them in most rooms of your home. This way you can clean each room quickly without carrying supplies all over the house.
  8. Sort your daily mail every day. Keep mail manageable by sorting, filing, and trashing junk mail daily. Do this as soon as grab your mail from your mailbox so that it doesn't pile up.
