Your morning routine is the same every day and you're probably just going through the motions. But the choices you make in those early hours can really affect your whole day. So making a few healthier changes in the morning can help set the tone for a healthier, happier, and more productive day.

So tomorrow morning, don't pull those covers over your head and hit that snooze button. Instead, try these seven ways to start your morning off healthier

  1. Wake up at the same time every day. Even on weekends! Get your internal clock set by keeping a consistent wake time each morning. Even if you love sleeping in on the weekends, your body will adjust and naturally wake you up without that loud alarm clock. If you aren't a morning person, you can teach yourself to be one, and once getting out of bed is easier, you'll accomplish more with the extra hours of daylight.
  1. Stretch with yoga. Wake up your muscles and center your mind before your day starts by stretching with a few yoga poses. You don't even have to get out of bed for most of the poses. As you hold each pose, imagine everything you will accomplish that day.
  1. Drink water. If you're the type of person that starts reaching for the coffee as soon as your roll out of bed, try switching to a large glass of water first. The water will rehydrate you, kick start your digestive system, and is the perfect way to cleanse your body of any toxins. Try warm water with lemon if cold water upsets your stomach early in the morning.
  1. Stay away from technology. Although it's tempting to grab your phone to see what emails or messages you missed overnight, be screen free for the first hour you're awake. You can catch up on the news, weather, and all your missed emails after that hour. Take this time to get yourself prepared and in the right mindset for the day and give your eyes and mind a break in the morning.
  1. Find an exercise you love for 20-30 minutes. Doesn't have to be major if you're not ready for that. Maybe it's taking the dog for a long walk, popping in a workout DVD or a yoga sessions. Give yourself the time each morning for a short workout before you day gets so busy. Plus a morning workout helps you burn more calories during the day.
  1. Plan your breakfast. Meal planning is key to a healthier lifestyle but don't forget to include breakfast into that plan. Even if you usually skip breakfast, start your day out right with foods that will keep your full until your next meal and will help you make better food choices all day. Try oatmeal, nuts, and Greek yogurt as a yummy and quick breakfast
  1. Enjoy your coffee. Just limit the number of cups you are drinking and think about what goes into your coffee. The most health benefits come from black coffee, so keep the sweeteners to a minimum -- and avoid those sugary milkshakes masquerading as coffee.
