It's New York Fashion Week, a time when designers trot out their latest collections for magazine editors and celebrities to drool over. Most of the clothes are way too expensive for the average person to afford (and often way too avant garde and out there). But there are plenty of great fashion week trends you can take and make your own. We've found six designer looks that you can probably find in your own closet.

1. Bright colors with gold details.
To pull off Reem Acra's trendsetting look, you can add a bright scarf to neutral outfit, or add bold gold jewelry and a neon top to jeans.

2. (Faux) leather

Mix a little leather into your wardrobe -- faux or otherwise -- like the folks at Rag and Bone did. You don't have to spend a ton to get the leather look -- faux moto jackets like this one from Pink often go for less than $100.

3. All-over floral

Go big with blooms, a la Jenny Packham, for a year-round spring feeling. Floral dresses can be worn with hardier items, like blazers or long cardigans, to make them feel fall-appropriate.

4. Neutral pieces

Jill Stuart's latest collection proves you can go colorless without losing any high-fashion appeal. To make sure you don't fade into the background, pair your neutrals with some gold jewelry or a bright neon necklace or two.

5. Menswear-inspired looks

Go for a tailored ensemble, like the one that sauntered down Thakoon's runway.

6. Soft and feminine material

This silky wrap dress, as seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, combines comfortable fabrics in a classic cut.
