Make Halloween a family affair this year with a coordinated group costume perfect for trick-or-treaters of all ages. Whether you're inspired by your favorite family films, fairy tales, or books, putting your own spin on these classics will make the holiday more memorable for everyone.

1. Addams Family

Is there a family more suited to celebrating Halloween than the Addams Family? Though you can purchase pre-made costumes for many of the characters, you can also DIY your own with a few trips to the thrift store. Look for Pugsley's striped shirt, Wednesday's white-collared dress, and Morticia's black gown to involve everyone from toddlers to parents as the spooky, kooky television favorites.

2. Alice in Wonderland

From sweet Alice in her blue dress and white apron to the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts, Lewis Carroll's epic tale offers plenty of costume inspiration. Look for the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Tweedledee, and Tweedledum -- and don't forget simple props, like a bottle labeled "Drink Me" or a colorful teacup.

3. Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Pretty much any fable, folk tale, or fairy tale will be a hit with young kids, but Goldilocks and the Three Bears is an especially simple one. Parents and kids can dress as bears in crocheted hats or hoodies with ears sewn on, and bring along a blond doll to play Goldilocks--or, if you're dressing four people instead of three, a simple yellow wig can turn anyone in your family into the little porridge thief (even dad!).

4. Star Wars

With Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens scheduled for release this winter and the recent influx of characters from the Clone Wars series, your costume choices are endless: Choose from icons like Han Solo, Darth Vader, Yoda, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia, or take your cues from the new cast -- including Kylo Ren, Finn, and Rey. Or mix and match the stories for an intergenerational take on the Jedi vs. Empire story that even the family dog can join.

5. Superheroes

Whether your family is devoted to the Marvel Universe -- think Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk -- or die-hard fans of DC Comics (including Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman), a set of superhero costumes is a foolproof option. Even babies can get in on the action with teeny tiny outfits like Supergirl, Captain America, and Robin.

6. Wizard of Oz

No matter how many people you're trying to dress, the Wizard of Oz offers plenty of options. Just the kids? Choose Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. Parents, too? Add flying monkeys, the wizard, and Glinda. And if you're costuming kids (or adults) who prefer things a little more abstract, make a tornado or rainbow costume to coordinate with the group.
