Tortilla Chips and Salsa!

Ah, tortilla chips, one of America's greatest party snacks. They make the perfect pair with our favorite salsa, but did you know they're good for more than dipping?

That's right--you can cook actual meals with tortilla chips. Check out five of the mouth-watering ways to incorporate tortilla chips into your next dish to give it just the right amount of flavor and crunch.

1. Tortilla Chip Breading

Substitute bread crumbs and panko for tortilla chips instead! The crushed chips bring flavor to any dish. You can bread just about anything from this veggie burger from the Minimalist Baker to Julie's Eats and Treats homemade tortilla mozzarella sticks. (The possibilities are very endless.)

2. Taco Salad

We all love tacos, and now we can enjoy them in salad form. Take all of your favorite taco toppings--lettuce, tomato, cheese, beans--and toss in some chopped tortilla chips. The flavor from the chips will tie in all the fresh ingredients and give your salad the southwestern taste it's been missing. See recipe from Cinnamon Spice and Everything Nice here.

3. Tortilla Garnish

Usually, we sprinkle seasonings over our dishes to add flavor and "complete" the meal, but tortilla chips are an excellent substitute to add a Mexican twist to any food, like this taco burger from How Sweet Eats.

4. Tortilla Chip Soup

Cut the crackers for a soup with a southwestern kick. Go all the way with this spicy chicken soup recipe from The DIY Foodie that throws a fiesta in your mouth, incorporating avocado, sour cream and chili powder for an authentic Mexican soup dish, or go for this lower heat salsa verde chicken chili dish from The Comfort of Cooking for the same scrumptious effect.

5. For Breakfast? Yes Please!

The most important meal of the day jus got a lot tastier. Tortilla chips can dress up traditional breakfast recipes and transform them into Mexican-inspired goodness. Mix them with your scrambled eggs (and a few other ingredients, courtesy of Serious Eats) for a classic breakfast dish with a twist, or try something totally new, like breakfast nachos from Yes to Yolks.
