Dressing the kids in adorable outfits is really fun for most parents, grandparents, and other loved ones who like to provide the best of everything for their favorite little ones -- but it's not always affordable. A lot of the chain stores carry cute things, but there really is something special about walking into a baby boutique and being able to indulge in something unique. And there are lots of brands that you can find in those stores that offer adorable clothing that may still be a bit of a splurge but won't cost you an arm and a leg. Here are some of the brands to look for that offer great quality and design at prices you can swing from time to time.

Zutano

Zutano's colorful and cozy clothes for boys and girls ranging from preemies to size 4T are made from high quality, super soft cotton. The prints are fun and add a unique take on common kid favorites like dinosaurs, vehicles, flowers, and stripes, and pieces ranging from hats to jackets to booties coordinate to create the customized look you want. A large portion of the collection is versatile enough for both girls and boys to happily wear, and barely a piece in the collection runs more than $50.

Tea

The designers of Tea's collection of clothing for kids aged 6 months to 12 years travel the world to find inspiration in an effort to connect the children that wear their clothing with the other cultures of the world. While Tea does have the Tea Collection line which is a more refined offering, their daily playwear also offers an inspired collection of fun prints that can be mixed and matched in all sorts of ways to let your little one show his or her style. Dresses and leggings, cargo pants, and graphic tees are all made in from high quality cotton that withstands the wear and tear of toddlers, kids, and tweens. It's a whole lot of style for prices that range from $20 to $60.

Joules

The British clothing company Joules may remind you a bit of Mini Boden, but it's a step up from the catalog of the same country. Joules makes beautiful dresses, fun skirts, exceptionally soft tees and sweatshirts, and great outerwear in bright colors for children aged newborn to 12 years. The quality is undeniable and patterns will put a smile on your face.

Petit Bateau

While this isn't the least expensive brand at the boutiques, Petit Bateau has been offering classic European styling at exceptional quality for many decades. The mariner striped tees, classic cotton cardigan sweaters, sweet one piece infant rompers, and exceptionally soft onesies and undergarments will never disappoint or go out of style, so you can pass them on from one child to the next and get your money's worth. Most pieces in this collection range from $20 to $100 (and are worth every penny).

Appaman

For the kids who have a little more edge, Appaman offers graphic tees, funky prints, and fabulous outerwear for boys and girls aged 6 months to 10 years. Whether you've got a kid who likes to rock out, hit the field, or ride the waves they'll dig these styles for both casual wear and more formal affairs. With the exception of the sweaters and outerwear, almost all of this great style costs less than $50.

Pink Chicken

There is something about the bohemian chic look of Pink Chicken's designs that make it nearly irresistible. While the leggings, skirts, and tees are truly adorable, it's the dresses that make the biggest impact for girls aged newborn to 14 years as they can easily be worn as dresses and then transition into tunic tops for many years of wear. While the dresses fall primarily in the $50 to $70 range, they really do offer a unique addition to the wardrobe that will long be a favorite piece.

Wes and Willy

For the boys, Wes and Willy offers traditional styles from tees and polos to hoodies and wide wale corduroy jackets -- but with a little bit of fun, featuring things like skulls and crossbones, diggers, drum sets, and favorite sports themes. They also offere bottoms in school-approved styles and kid-friendly fabrics like fleece and nylon. Their thick cotton lets you know that you're getting great quality and the generous sizing makes it appealing for boys of all shapes.

Kissy Kissy

While Kissy Kissy may only be available in sizes preemie to 24 months, its sweet portrayal of kid themes like fish, fire trucks, and flowers on footies, separates, dresses, hats, and more make it rather irresistible. The pieces are made from pima cotton that is lightweight yet warm and perfect for all seasons. Kissy Kissy is a great go-to boutique brand for baby gifts or just to give your own little one something special, and at prices that are mostly under $40 you can afford to buy more than one piece.

Hartstrings

When you need great quality (but affordable) special occasion clothing, or just an adorable outfit for school, Hartstrings is the brand to go to. The company makes classic khakis, embroidered critter tops and bottoms, madras, twirling dresses, and much more for children from infant to age 10. And they have several lines to suit all of your needs at great prices.

Hilly Chrisp

For girls ages 1 to 8 years Hilly Chrisp provides a fun play on mixing patterns and colors in a collection of skirts, dresses, shorts, and bloomers. The skirts have exceptional twirling capabilities which is very important to many young girls, and these pieces are certain to become favorites to get them through the warm weather months -- plus they can be layered with other pieces during the cooler months.
